A Venezuelan man who was critically injured in El Socorro has died at the hospital.
33-year-old Jose Martinez Yolvis, who was declared brain dead, was removed from Life Support machines at the Mt. Hope Hospital on Monday 30th October.
Around 8.50 a.m. on Sunday 29 October, officers of the North Eastern Division's ERP Unit responded to a wireless transmission about a fight at Rum Jungle Bar located at Boundary Road El Socorro.
Police went to the scene but all appeared to be quiet and regular, Uncutt News Media was told by sources.
Police later learned that around 8:15 a.m., Yoelvis was discovered motionless with injuries to the head along Boundary Road near Bhim Bhim Trace.
Yoelvis and a female Venezuelan woman, who was in his company, were taken to the Mt. Hope Hospital by a passerby where he was treated for extensive brain damage.
The woman, after registering the victim, left the hospital. Police suspect Yoelvis was beaten on the head with a blunt object.
He remained on life support machines at the hospital until Monday.
Investigations are continuing into the incident by WPC De Gannes and PC Boodhai of the Barataria Police Station and officers of the Region 2 Homicide Bureau of Investigations.
