A 24-year-old robbery suspect was arrested after he assaulted a police officer during an anti-crime operation in Port of Spain on Monday 23rd October, 2023.
• Around 3pm, a team of officers from the Port of Spain CID, supervised by PC Ramberan, PC Motilal, PC Jawahir, PC Laptiste, PC Samaroo, and PC Hoyte, were conducting operations around the George Street Plannings, following a series of robberies in the area.
• The officers then observed a man who matched the description of a suspect in one of the robberies that occurred on October 10 and attempted to intercept him.
• However, when the officers approached the man, he reportedly began acting violently and assaulted one of the officers, before attempting to run.
• The Officers caught him and conducted a search where they discovered a quantity of cocaine on his person.
• As a result, the suspect was arrested and is expected to be placed on identification parades in connection with the reports of robberies.
• He will also be charged with the offences of possession of a dangerous drug, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer in an attempt to evade arrest.
