Police shot and killed one of the bandits who moments earlier robbed a woman of her car in La Horquetta.
The woman's vehicle, a Toyota Aqua motor car, was recovered by police after the suspects crashed it during a high-speed chase along the wet highway on Sunday night.
Minutes earlier, the victim was followed and her vehicle was cornered along Dahlia Crescent in La Horquetta by three armed bandits inside a Nissan Tiida motor car.
The suspects stole the woman's car and valuables before fleeing, leaving her traumatized and crying for help. This incident was captured on CCTV footage.
Dashcam video showing the stolen car breaking the lights, heading east, and nearly colliding with several vehicles along the Tumpuna Road Intersection of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, as the suspects attempted to make a getaway.
One motorist told us earlier that it was a scary situation along the wet highway.
"The speed at which this white aqua was going while breaking the lights when other vehicles were crossing the highway was so scary eh, even more so since I was next to cross the highway with my vehicle," the driver told us.
However, at that time, officers of the Maloney Crime Patrol were pursuing the stolen car that was spotted west along the highway near O'Meara Road.
The car made a U-turn and proceeded east along the highway where the chase continued.
The occupants of the vehicle reportedly opened fire on the police who shot back at them during the chase.
The chase continued east along the highway as the suspects broke every red light before the Aqua crashed near Demerara Road.
Two men exited the vehicle upon reaching the vicinity of Demerara Road, the driver lost and ran into nearby bushes, police said, while another suspect traded bullets with them
He was shot multiple times by officers and later declared dead at the Arima District Hospital.
The dead suspect was described as a man of African descent who was clad in a blue coloured jersey and black pants.
Investigations are continuing into the incident.
