A pensioner was killed in a fire at his Laventille home on Thursday 23rd November, 2023.
• The deceased was identified as 74-year-old Vernon Phillip of Wharton Street Extension, Laventille.
• Around 6:15pm, Phillip was at his rental home with the concrete and wooden structure caught on fire.
• Residents contacted the police and fire services who arrived at the scene and managed to out the blaze.
• Officers of the Besson Street police station later found Phillip’s charred remains in the burnt structure.
The last pensioner who perished in a fire was 76-year-old Winston Blake who died after his home in 7th Avenue, Malick, Barataria caught ablaze on Tuesday 25th July, 2023.
