Man Shot 18 Times And Survives

He was shot 18 times by police and spent 18 days at the hospital in what he described as a "failed assassination attempt".

Keron Alexis was released on $500,000 bail on Tuesday 24th October 2023 when he appeared before a Chaguanas Magistrate.

Alexis, of Enterprise Chaguanas, was slapped with 4 charges by police, all of which he said he is innocent of.

In a brief telephone interview with Uncutt News Media earlier today, Alexis said he was shot 18 times, with five of the bullets hitting him in the face.

Not speaking too much on the matter which is before the court, Alexis expressed confidence that he would be exonerated of what he described as "fabricated charges" against him by the police.

He said officers of the Chaguanas Gang and Intelligence Unit shot him without just cause and later planted a loaded firearm and cocaine inside the vehicle in an attempt to justify their actions on Thursday 5th October 2023 at Dass Branch Trace Enterprise Chaguanas.

"If they had done a proper investigation, I wouldn't have been charged," he quipped.

He said after he was shot and placed inside the police vehicle, the officers took a longer route to the Chaguanas District Health Facility.

"One of them took money from my pockets saying 'yuh doh need dis way yuh going'," Alexis said.

He said while the vehicle was going through several streets through Enterprise, he remained still and heard one of the officers saying," he not moving now."

As the vehicle pulled up at the Chaguanas District Health Facility, to the officer's surprise, he got up and walked into the facility on his own.

Alexis added that a portion of his stomach was removed and one of his lungs partially collapsed by the bullets the officers pumped into him.

Alexis was charged with the following:

1. Common assault against PC Kenan Gooding;

2. Possession of cocaine for the purpose of Trafficking;

3. Possession of a Glock pistol; and

4. Possession of 7 live rounds of ammunition.

After the shooting, police entered several homes nearby and confiscated DVRs (Digital Video Recording systems) that captured the incident.

One prominent attorney, speaking with Uncutt News Media on the condition of anonymity said the affected homeowners can each take action against the state since the police needed a warrant to enter and obtain such devices.

"If what has been reported on social media is an accurate reflection of the action of the police, then in my view such amounts to a violation of one's Constitutional Rights to the enjoyment of their property, except by due process of the law.

The due process factor would have come in if warrants were obtained giving the police the greenlight to confiscate the devices for evidential purposes.

Additionally, in the absence of a search warrant, it means the police would have trespassed on private property and civil litigation can be taken against such abuse," the attorney told us earlier today.

Officers claimed Alexis pointed a firearm at one of them and he was shot. Two other males were in the car with Alexis and one was also shot in the leg.

Neither of them was charged with any crimes by the police.

Officers of the Professional Standards Bureau and the Police Complaints Authority are conducting simultaneous investigations into the shooting.
