Man Sets Home On Fire

A 61-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly set fire to a Mayaro home while eight people were sleeping on Monday 12th November, 2023.

• Around 2:30am, the family was asleep at their home along Mafeking Road in Mafeking Village, when they were awoken by loud crackling noises.

• They then secured the suspect who repeatedly began screaming that he was going to kill everyone in the house.

• All eight occupants, including a 71-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman, a 34-year-old man, a 34-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman, and three children ages nine, six, and seven months were taken to the Mayaro health facility for treatment.

• The 34-year-old woman, who had been burnt by the cocktail, was then transferred to Mt Hope for additional treatment.
