A suspected car thief who was critically wounded during a shooting incident with police last month which left his accomplice dead, appeared in court last week.

9-year-old Shiva Ramoutar of Arima Old Road, Arima, was refused bail when he appeared before Arima Magistrate Natalie Hamilton-Diop last Thursday.

He was charged with robbery with violence in an incident where he's alleged to have robbed a man of his taxi at Windy Hill in Arouca.

23-year-old Joel Alick, a known Robbery offender, was shot and killed by police who intercepted the vehicle in San Juan minutes later.

Alick was on bail after he was charged with robbing a mini-mart in Tobago in 2020.

Ramoutar was also critically wounded during the shooting and was discharged from the Mt. Hope Hospital last week Wednesday, Uncutt News Media understands. He was charged by PC Roopnarine of the Arouca CID with robbery with violence.

Magistrate Hamilton-Diop advised Ramoutar of his right to apply to a judge in chambers for bail and adjourned the matter to December 8th.
