German Diplomat Robbed In Curepe By Gunmen

A GERMAN diplomat with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the person she was with at the time were robbed by armed bandits on Sunday night.

The incident took place around 8.50 p.m., while the diplomat, 43-year-old Miriam Aertker, and the other victim, Jerus Mohammed, 38, were in a silver Hyundai Tucson driving on Frederick Street, Curepe.

Police reports state that at the time they were driving behind a white Nissan Tiida which suddenly stopped, forcing the Tucson to stop.

It was at that point that four masked men, two of whom were armed with firearms existed the Tiida, approached the victims and announced a robbery.

Police stated that the bandits relieved Aetker and Mohammed of their cellphones, a quantity of cash and a blue handbag belonging to Aertker.

They also took possession of the Tucson, valued at $55,000, before escaping by driving north on North Street and then west onto Priest Hill.

Police said that the abandoned stolen vehicle was recovered on Bamboo Drive, Champs Fleurs, by officers of the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in company with the St Joseph mobile patrol.

Officers said they found a cellular phone and a wallet in the vehicle. The handbag belonging to Aertker was not recovered.
