Couple Robbed After Going To Buy Car From Online Stranger

A Chase Village couple are the latest people to get robbed after going to meet a stranger they found online to do business. Police said the 32-year-old man and the 30-year-old woman went to the plannings at the corner of George and Prince Street in Port of Spain, around 2:40 pm on Thursday.

The couple expected to meet a man who advertised a Toyota Wingroad for sale on Facebook marketplace but were instead confronted by two bandits, one of whom had a gun.

The man was robbed of his cellphone and wedding ring while the woman was robbed of her handbag which contained $4,300 cash. The bandits left the couple standing on the street as they ran away. Officers of the Besson Street police station are continuing enquiries.

In the past officers have called on the public not to meet strangers in unfamiliar neighbourhoods to conduct financial transactions.
